About the Artist
DARREL ALCANTARA NONATO
Darrel considers himself a late bloomer and a newbie in the art scene, even though he started drawing at a very early age and having a formal training in Fine Arts. He undergone a hiatus where he didn’t paint for more than a decade, pouring all of his time and energy instead in the world of Corporate Advertising and exploring other passion like being an aspiring musician who hopes to making it big in the Indie Rock n’ Roll scene, but since 2016, he started painting again and producing more colorful and expressive artworks whenever he had a spare time from up to this day.
Darrel or ‘Dar” as his friends call him is from Pasay City, He graduated Bachelor of Fine Arts major in Advertising Arts in University of Santo Tomas (UST) in 2002.
He since then worked as a Graphic Designer for various Ad Agencies and few Corporate Companies.
He used various media like Oil, Acrylic, Soft Pastels, Watercolor and Gouache currently chose to prefer Gouache and Water Color as his main media. Darrel has always been a fan of the Expressionism genre in art, at one time experimented in the Fauvism Style of the said genre. His influences includes Andre Derain, Henri Matisse, Frida Kahlo and Filipino modern artist such as Victorio Edades, Onib Olmedo, Jojo Legaspi and Alfredo Esquillo.
