About the Artist
ERNILO GERMINO
I was born in Manila on January 25, 1965 and have four brothers all whom have a love for the art although I am the only one to become a professional artist-painter. As a child I always liked to draw whenever the opportunity arose. When I was in high school I was often asked to proceed to other classroom to draw some of the science instruments commonly used for experimentation.
In 1992, at the age of 27, I took Fine Arts at Slim’s Fashion and Arts School. During my time there I won several prizes for my artwork. I Graduated in Fine Arts from Slims Fashion and Art School in 1994. In the same year I also participated in a Painting Workshop at UP College of Fine Arts. Whilst still studying I received a number of awards in different categories and different media. Right after graduating I taught basic drawing and painting at Slims for a semester. I then worked as a Theme Park Scenic Assistant Art Director for a Japan Interior based in Manila. I finally became full time painter after resigning from work. Over the years I have won some awards for my artwork in several major competitions including Top 50 Finalist Philippine Art Award, Metropolitan Museum of Art. Juror’s Choice, Mixed Media Category and 3rd Prize, Abstract Category, Art Association of the Philippines. 3rd Prize, 1stMuntinlupa National Oil Painting Competition. 1st Honorable Mention Letras y Figuras, Instituto Cervantes. Honorable Mention, 1st Department of Agrarian Reform On The Spot Poster Making Contest. In 1999 I was awarded 1st Prize, Watercolor Category, 16th Metrobank YPA National Painting Competition.
My artwork has appeared in many group exhibitions and I had a highly successful One Man Show entitled “Freedom Through Diversity” in London, England in 2000.
In 2001 I was a Member of the Board of Judges, National Painting Contest organized by the Civil Service Commission.
In 2019 I was a Member of the Board of Judges, De La Salle Santiago Zobel School Peace of Art Contest.
My winning Metrobank artwork has been featured in the limited edition book by Christian L.De La Paz: Artes de las Filipinas Private Collections and also featured in a Special Limited Edition book by Cid Reyes : Made Of Gold published by Metrobank Foundation, Inc.
At present I am concentrating on mostly abstract works in Acrylic. I love “ Nature “ that is why most of my paintings are colorful. Painting landscape, seascape, coralscape gives me peace of mind. At the moment most of my paintings are about Coral Reef, Plants and Birds. I find Nature very interesting and it gives me endless ideas to create. Painting Nature for me is one way of appreciating it’s natural beauty and importance that is why we should really take care of our “ Mother Nature “
